Well, THAT was ugly!

Looks like the Butch Davis era didn't work out as well as thought back in 2001. It seems nobody remembers doubling the win total, the 33 interceptions (10 by then rookie Anthony Henry) or the feeling that Butch would bring multiple championships back to Cleveland. I guess it was a case of a little too much too early. I believe Butch's early success led to hubris. Maybe if he went 4-12 the first year, he may have listened to others. He could have avoided taking Gerard Warren, letting Roman Oben go (who along with Greg Spires won a Super Bowl with Tampa Bay), giving Ron Wolf the cold shoulder and had a better run.

Anyway, enough of looking back. 2005 poses a new season. New GM, new coach and possibly many new players.

Trouble in Cleveland

Well, it's very obvious the Browns have not improved much since last year.

Game 1 looked OK but it's easy to forget that the Ravens were missing two starters on their offensive line.

Game 2 was pretty painful as it became clear they defense couldn't stop the pass.

Game 3 showed that we couldn't stop the run either as Tiki Barber had his way.

Game 4 showed that the Redskins are not a good team.

Game 5 showed that Dave Campo has an unnatural fear of blitzing. Even if the target is a rookie making his 3rd NFL start.

It's clear right now though that the Browns must beat the Bengals at home or stare at a long and daunting season on the bottom of the AFC North.

We are ready for some football!

Wow, summer really is over. The 100 degree weather is still here but we have professional football on TV.

Welcome back.

Everyone is completely optimistic about their teams when they are 0-0. I look forward to seeing what team surges ahead early in the season, looks unbeatable and then fades away (Buffalo last year). I also enjoy the team that pathetically holds on all season just to flub it at the end. (Bengals last year.)

Hard to say how my beloved Dawgs handle this year. Last year was either an aberration or a trend. My heart says it was a fluke but I can't help but think Butch Davis is over-matched in the NFL. (OK, maybe Mike Martz is even *MORE* overmatched than Butch, but that's not saying much.)

I think the team has to improve from 5-11. The real question is how much more. I will be bold and put them at 9 wins. If Garcia ever gets into rhythm with his WRs and Winslow, they could be very good. (Also, that mean Garmon will have to PASS block, the man is a liability out there!)

So, here's to the Dawgs putting down the Ravens 24-13 and 100+ yards for William Green.

Woof woof.
